The Navaratri is a spiritually charged period to listen to songs, mantras, and strotrams that sing the glories of the mother divine. Devotees recite many chants to offer their love and respect to the Devi and seek her blessings. Prominent among them is Devi Kavacham. Consisting of 47 slokas, Devi Kavacham is said to have been recited by Lord Brahma to sage Markandeya. The chant consists of different names of the Devi connected with different parts of our body.

The recitation of Devi Kavacham dispels negativity and protects the devotee from all evil. Since the strotram acts like armour, therefore the name ‘kavacham’.
